World Bank names Georgia leader in simplicity of doing business

The World Bank is ready to support the successful implementation of current and planned reforms by the Government of Georgia, says the Executive Director of the World Bank Group and the bank’s representative in Georgia Frank Heemskerk.

Heemskerk met Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Tbilisi yesterday, where he highlighted Georgia’s leading positions in doing business rankings and reconfirmed the World Bank’s support for the country.

Georgia takes 9th place among the countries with the most favourable conditions for business, and in the region it is the leader in simplicity of doing business”, he noted.

The government’s four-point plan, successful institutional and structural reforms,the democratic development of the country, rule of law, effective governance, favourable investment and business environment; flexible tax system and effective steps towards promoting private sector were discussed at the meeting.

Kvirikashvili and Heemskerk praised the World Bank’s financial support and 25 years of successful cooperation and underlined the importance of future cooperation and financial support that is planned for 2019-2022.

The World Bank is one of the most firm and strategic supporters of the ongoing reforms in Georgia. During the 25-year period, over $4.3 billion has been invested in more than 100 projects in Georgia.
