While talking to reporters on 3 September World Bank Country Manager for Belarus Alex Kremer mentioned the serious approach of the Belarusian government towards the reform roadmap.
Alex Kremer said: “I can say that in the course of preparing the roadmap together with the authorities we are discussing a number of topics, which were taboo or were not mentioned completely two years ago when I started working with Belarus. We see a very high level of interest and participation both at the technical level and the top level of state administration. It demonstrates the seriousness of their approach to the challenges that have evolved.”
Alex Kremer noted for now it is hard to predict when the discussion about the roadmap will be over. The timing of its implementation is also important. “The timing of taking the steps is as important as what is being done. We are discussing certain policy measures on various aspects because there is no uniform calendar, no unified timeframe,” said the World Bank country manager for Belarus. Earlier BelTA quoted Belarusian Economy Minister Dmitry Krutoi as saying that assisted by the World Bank the work on the roadmap of structural reforms in Belarus is supposed to be finished in Q4 2019.
The government and the World Bank started working on the reform roadmap in January 2019. Earlier World Bank Country Manager for Belarus Alex Kremer told BelTA in an interview that in the course of preparing the document the bank’s support will cover five main areas: government spending, energy industry, state enterprises, financial sector, social security and welfare system.
