A delegation of the World Bank came to Minsk on a working visit on 9-13 September. The visit was organized as part of a technical assistance project under the EU-financed program to support private sector in Belarus.
The World Bank delegation met with representatives of these agencies, other stakeholders from the public and private sectors of Belarus such as the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Housing and Utilities Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, and the Minsk City Hall. The parties reviewed the implementation of the running infrastructure and consulting projects and also the priority areas of future cooperation.
“At the meeting, the Minsk Oblast administration expressed willingness to work with advisors of the World Bank and the NAIP and pledged to assist them in order to complete the project to build three preschool institutions in Minsk Oblast. The Minsk regional authorities said that they are looking forward to implement other socially oriented public-private projects,” the NAIP noted.
The current World Bank’s portfolio in Minsk Oblast includes a number of projects in education and the utilities sector with a total budget of $85 million. According to Minsk Oblast Vice Governor Nikolai Rogashchuk, Minsk Oblast intends to continue pursuing a balanced policy taking into account interests of the region and the country as well as the priorities of the Wold Bank. The Health Ministry and the Housing and Utilities Ministry also reached agreements on promising areas of public-private partnership development in related areas and outlined potential public-private projects.
