The international payment system Visa, Mosst Payments, and Ukraine’s nationalized PrivatBank have launched a pilot project to purchase goods in Ukraine using fingerprints.
Guests of the Belive music festival recently held in Kyiv, owners of PrivatBank’s Visa cards, were the first ones in Ukraine to be able to pay for their purchases without cash, cards or smartphones, the bank’s press service said. It is enough to “tie” a fingerprint to a card once and pay at the outlets that support the technology, placing a finger to the biometric data reader, it added.
According to the bank’s estimates, small- and medium-sized businesses, as well as street vendors will primarily be interested in the technology, since one can accept payments using own smartphone or tablet and a special biometric scanner.
