Uzbekistan and World Intellectual Property Organization to deepen cooperation

The delegation of Uzbekistan, comprising Justice Minister Ruslanbek Davletov and director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov met with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Harry.

Francis Harry, expressing satisfaction with the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and WIPO, stated the Organization’s interest in further its comprehensive strengthening and development.

In a positive way, the measures taken in Uzbekistan to ensure effective protection of intellectual property, improvement of the legal framework, examination and registration of copyright objects were underlined.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to use all the possibilities of the parties to achieve practical results from cooperation. It envisages the implementation of a number of joint activities aimed at training qualified personnel in the field of intellectual property, increasing national capacity, ensuring the sustainability of this area in accordance with international standards of WIPO.

Strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and WIPO is becoming particularly relevant in the light of the planned resumption of negotiations on the accession of our country to the World Trade Organization.

The head of WIPO expressed readiness to develop an appropriate program, providing for the implementation of specific measures to enhance the multifaceted cooperation with partners from Uzbekistan.
