The Robbins Company will take part in the construction of Shnokh Hydro Power Plant in Armenia, the press office of the Armenian ministry of energy infrastructures and natural resources reported on Wednesday. According to the ministry’s press release, an appropriate cooperation memorandum was signed Wednesday by Debed Hydro LLC, which is a subsidiary of Energo Invest Holding that is registered and operating in Armenia, and The Robbins Company, which has a rich international experience in building large tunnels.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ashot Manukyan, Armenian energy infrastructures and natural resources minister, and US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills. Manukyan is quoted in the press release as saying that the Shnokh Hydro Power Plant construction program is an important step in enhancement of Armenia’s energy security as part of the government’s strategy and that the government highly appreciates the fact that this step is being taken in partnership with American colleagues.
The minister thanked both Energo Invest Holding and The Robbins Company for this initiative saying it is very important for the country’s energy system and economy. Ambassador Mills, on his side, said that the signing of the memorandum is and example of the growing cooperation between Armenia and the United States.
The memorandum lays groundwork for investment by the American company in Debed Hydro LLC’s authorized capital. The memorandum also implies that the company will provide machinery for laying a 22-kilometer water tunnel under the program of Shnokh Hydro Power Plant construction and will retrain local specialists. The construction of Shnokh Hydro Power Plant is estimated to cost $150 to 190 million.
