A letter of intent was signed on June 20 between the International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center (IGTIPC) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The partnership between FAO and the Center builds on the shared goals of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end hunger, improve food security and nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
Specifically, they both aim to support conservation and sustainable management of the oceans, seas and marine resources, and to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.
In Kazakhstan, both parties work on promoting the development of sustainable and effective organic agriculture, the rational use of water resources, conservation and effective management of ecosystems.
They have declared their intention to coordinate efforts and cooperate to exchange knowledge in areas of common interest, work together for the development of a sustainable and effective organic agriculture, integrated management of natural resources and food security in Kazakhstan and elsewhere in Central Asia.
“Cooperation with the Center will accelerate and expand the introduction of green and climate technologies in the agrifood sector of Kazakhstan,” said Kairat Nazhmidenov, Head of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Kazakhstan at the signing ceremony. “Some of these technologies FAO has already successfully analyzed for sustainability, profitability and attractiveness for investment by the private sector.”
The Letter of Intent was signed by Vladimir Rakhmanin, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia and the Head of the Center Rapil Zhoshybayev.
The non-profit Joint-Stock Company “International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects” was created upon the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. This was announced in September 2015 during the 70th UN General Assembly. The Center became operative in April 2018, based on the infrastructure and heritage of the ASTANA – EXPO 2017 exhibition, and was presented at the Global Challenges Summit of the Astana Economic Forum in May 2018.
