Ukraine’s exports of agricultural products to the EU are on 39.8% rise

Exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the European countries totaled $4.177 billion in January-September 2017, rising by 39.8% year-over-year, Ukraine’s Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported. “The increase of our exports to the EU countries was mainly thanks to growth of supplies of corn by 57.4%, rapeseeds by 72.9%, sunflower oil by 23%. In addition, supplies of meat and poultry byproducts significantly increased, as well as honey, confectionary products, margarine and niche products like sorghum and flax seeds,” Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister for European Integration Olha Trofimtseva said.

She said that the key importers of Ukrainian agricultural products and food among EU countries are the Netherlands with 17.6% share, Spain with 15.5%, Poland 12.9%, Italy – 11.9 and Germany – 9.9%.

“It is pleasant to say that demand on Ukrainian finished products is growing on the EU markets. For example, butter for $12.6 million was exported in January-September 2017, while a year ago the figure was only $5,000. Supplies of Ukrainian ice cream, condensed milk, starch, confectionary products from sugar and other goods also grew,” she said. Trofimtseva said that imports of agrarian products from EU countries over the period rose by 11.7%, to $1.581 billion.
