“We have joined the Global Container Control Program of the UN and the World Customs Organization. Today, along with UNODC Director of Policy Analysis and Public Affairs Jean-Luc Lemahi10eu and Head of the State Border Service Petro Tsyhykal, we signed a respective memorandum,” he wrote on January 16.
Prodan said that effective control over the growing flow of containers was impossible without interaction with foreign partners, without obtaining information from them on high-risk goods.
“The flow of goods to Ukraine has increased significantly in recent years. Last year, the country received 700,000 containers more than in 2016. We registered almost five million containers. Transit also increased. It grew by more than 16% at Odesa Sea Commercial Port. Effective control over the growing container flow is impossible without interaction with foreign partners and without obtaining information from them on high-risk goods. As a result, we have intensified the negotiation process for participation in the Global Container Control Program,” he said.
According to Prodan, the program will provide the country with access to international databases, through which it will be possible to track illegal flows of drugs, weapons, and fake goods.
