Ukraine establishes EU-supported SME Development Office

The Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Development Office has been created at the Economic Development and Trade Ministry with the assistance of the European Union.

Ukrinform learned this from the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

“On October 16, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv signed the order on the establishment of the SME Development Office at the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine. The SME Development Office was created with the assistance of the European Union and is a consultative and advisory agency at the Economic Development Ministry, which subsequently should become the leading agency for promoting entrepreneurship and developing the competitiveness of SMEs in the country,” reads the report.

It is noted that the creation of the SME Development Office is the next step in implementing the government’s strategy aimed at recognizing SMEs as an important engine of economic growth in the country.

“We are also confident that the Office will play a key role in enhancing the domestic and international competitiveness of Ukrainian SMEs and individual entrepreneurs. We expect first tangible results for SMEs as early as in 2019,” Kubiv noted.
