In February, Ukraine produced a total of 1.9 million tons of steel, indicating an 11.2% increase compared to the same period last year. The country is currently ranked 12 in the rating of 64 of the world’s largest steel producers compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
Half of the top nations exhibited growth in steel production over the month of February.
The world’s ten countries in terms of steel production as of February 2018 included China (64.93 million tons, a 5.9% rise), India (8.43 million tons, a 3.4% rise), Japan (8.3 million tons, a 0.5% decline), the United States of America (6.45 million tons, a 0.4% rise), South Korea (5.42 million tons, a 2.1% fall), Russia (5.15 million tons, a 2.1% decrease), Germany (3.34 million tons, a 3.2% fall), Turkey (3 million tons, a 8.7% increase), Brazil (2.72 million tons, a 5.5% fall) and Iran (2.12 million tons, a 48.6% increase).
Those were followed by Italy (2.093 tons, a 4.5% rise), Ukraine (1.9 million tons, a growth of 11.2%), and Taiwan (1.81 million tons, a 2% drop). Altogether, in February of this year, the 64 nations produced a total of 131.79 million tons of steel, which shows a 3.5% rise compared to February 2017.
According to the customs statistics from the State Fiscal Service, Ukrainian exports of black metals in 2017 rose by 20% against 2016 – to reach $8.66 billion. Black metals accounted for 20.03% of the total revenue from goods exports in 2017, against 19.93% the year before. The imports of the same kind of goods grew by 42%, to $1.13 billion in 2017.
