At the recent session of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov focused on the objectives for provision of stable growth of all sectors of the economy, saying that implementation of the concept of digital economy is one of the key directions.
The head of state said that work for digitization of all spheres of the national economy and introduction of advanced developments into production is being done in the country.
The Concept of development of digital economy until 2025, which was approved by the President, will be implemented from 2019. It is planned to implement the Concept in three phases. The first phase will be implemented in 2019, the second in 2020–2023, and the third one in 2024–2025.
Improvement of the fundamental basis of a digital economy — the internet provision — is among the most important points of the Concept, the President said.
In modern realities, the progress of any country is provided first of all by the development of science and education. In this context, the Concept of development of digital education in Turkmenistan, which is aimed at creation of an informational educational environment and provision of this sphere with electronic resources of education, is very important for digitization of the national economy, the President said.
Under Turkmenistan–UNDP cooperation, the Academy of Sciences of the country developed Digital Turkmenistan State Program, whose main objective is to stimulate the development of information and communication technologies and improvement of the input of this sector to Turkmenistan’s GDP and elimination of “digital difference” in the life of the population of cities, regions and towns.
The Program is to accelerate the transition of the national economy to an innovative way, improvement of work occupancy in scientifically based branches, introduction of modern technologies to production, and complete the switchover to digital documentation.
