The WTO leadership supports swift Belarus’s accession

The WTO leadership is ready to provide the necessary support to Belarus in completing the accession negotiations in the nearest future, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Alan Wolff said at the meeting with Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich on 5 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Yuri Ambrazevich extended greetings to Alan Wolff in view of his appointment to this position and expressed hope for the constructive cooperation, including in the process of the accession of the Republic of Belarus to the WTO.

In turn, Alan Wolff stated that the WTO leadership highly appreciates the efforts of the Government of Belarus related to the WTO accession. The parties exchanged views on the economic situation in Belarus, on the results of the 9th meeting of the WTO Working Party on accession of Belarus (13 September 2017, Geneva), as well as on the next mutual steps to advance the negotiation process. It was agreed to continue the regular interaction, including during the preparations for the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in Buenos-Aires, Argentina on 10-13 December 2017.
