Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan has announced the establishment of the Center of Transport Innovation and a test site for the Hyperloop project in Ukraine.
“We are establishing the Center of Transport Innovations Hype.ua, which should create the first test site in Dnipro,” the minister said during a press briefing in Kyiv.
According to him, the initiative was joined by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukroboronprom state concern, Kakhovka plant of electric welding equipment, etc.
“There is no final model of how Hyperloop One will function in the world. Therefore we are glad that we are joining the project at this stage,” the minister said.
According to him, this year the ministry expects to receive the scientific evaluation of the project by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and in 2019 intends to launch a test site, i.e. to start the second phase of the project. After the test phase, the ministry intends to begin construction. At the same time, the minister specified he counts on private investments.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is not among the countries that were considered for this project. The closest country that could be a participant in it is Poland.
Hyperloop is a vacuum train project, proposed in 2012-2013 by American venture capitalist Elon Musk. Currently the project has not been implemented.
