The private sector of Sweden shows growing interest in projects in the sphere of transportation in Belarus. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Belarus Christina Johannesson made the statement as she met with Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko on 14 February.
The ambassador noted: “Our private sector has been demonstrating a strong interest in Belarus in the spheres of transport and logistics recently. Swedish companies more and more often express their desire to work on the Belarusian market.”
On the whole, it was noted that Belarus-Sweden cooperation in the sphere of transport has been developing rather actively recently. Belarus and Sweden exchange bilateral transit permits, interact in the sphere of international transportation of freight and passengers by road and by air. In particular, the Belarusian air carrier Belavia offers regular flights to Stockholm (three times per week).
Aleksei Avramenko also mentioned interest in advancing cooperation. “We are interested in cooperation within the framework of the international transport corridor North-South taking into account the growing freight traffic via Belarus along the East-West-East route. We have the ability to build reliable logistics routes, including together with Sweden,” he said.
The sides agreed to consider joint points of future cooperation and expressed readiness to enable the implementation of projects for the sake of exploring new cooperation avenues.
