During the special virtual event “COVID, Politics and Post-Soviet Societies“, organized by Henry Jackson Society, President of StrategEast Anatoly Motkin presented the results of StrategEast’s Westernization Report 2021 – a report on the most important events of the past year, affecting the Westernization of post-Soviet Eurasian countries.
During the Q&A session, Mr. Motkin answered questions regarding the latest developments in the Eurasian region: Russia’s military preparations on the border with Ukraine, new realities that have formed in the Caucasus as a result of the war in Karabakh and the deployment of Russian troops into the region, the prospects for the development of Moldova under the new president Maia Sandu and others. Some of the questions were also related to the methodology used in the research.
As a successful example of the West’s assistance in the Westernization of post-Soviet countries, Mr. Motkin cited the World Bank’s Digital CASA project, which is designed to provide millions of Central Asian residents with access to high-speed Internet and give impetus to the development of digital economy in the region.
The event was moderated by Sam Armstrong from Henry Jackson Society.
