StrategEast hosts a panel at Web Summit Lisbon: Bridging Innovation Between East and West

On November 13, StrategEast, supported by USAID’s Future Growth Initiative (FGI), hosted a dynamic panel at Web Summit Lisbon, one of the world’s premier tech events, bringing together CEOs, founders, and investors from across the globe. The panel, titled “East to West: The Shifting Face of Innovation,” explored the emerging collaboration between the Gulf and Central Asia and its transformative impact on the global IT market.

Held on the Governmental Summit stage, the session showcased the growing digital connectivity between these regions and emphasized the potential to create a cluster of digital excellence capable of reshaping the global innovation landscape. Moderated by Hanna Myshko of StrategEast, the panel featured renowned speakers, including Eman Al-Kuwari, Director of Digital Innovation at Qatar’s Ministry of Communications & IT; Aziz Tleumuratov, Executive Director of Astana Hub in Kazakhstan; and Valery Krasovsky, CEO and Co-founder of Sigma Software.

The discussion underscored the critical role of cross-regional partnerships in driving innovation, developing skills, and fostering economic growth. Eman Al-Kuwari highlighted how Qatar’s National Vision 2030, aimed at establishing the country as a global tech leader, is supported by collaborations with Central Asia and other regions. Aziz Tleumuratov shared Kazakhstan’s success in creating digital bridges, such as the Al Farabi Hub in Riyadh, which connects Eurasian startups with Gulf opportunities. Valery Krasovsky added insights from Sigma Software’s operations in both regions, showcasing how the private sector can leverage regional strengths to drive growth and expand opportunities.

The conversation also delved into knowledge sharing and talent development. Eman discussed Qatar’s strategies for cultivating tech talent through partnerships with the private sector and international collaborators. Aziz reflected on Kazakhstan’s ability to balance resource-based and knowledge-driven economic models to create opportunities for local talent while attracting international players. Valery emphasized the vital role of private companies in advancing skills development and fostering knowledge-sharing, contributing to the digital goals of both the Gulf and Central Asia.

The panel demonstrated the immense potential of Gulf-Central Asia collaboration to attract investment, foster innovation, and position these regions as pivotal players in the global tech ecosystem. As StrategEast continues to build bridges between these regions, initiatives like this panel highlight the power of collaboration in driving growth and creating opportunities for shared success.
