StrategEast CEO Michael Brodsky presented the Language and Cultural Westernization Award to the Director of Akhmet Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics Erden Kazhybek on March 19. Mr. Kazhybek has been awarded for his significant contribution to the Latinization of the Kazakh alphabet.
The Westernization Award was established to recognize the contributions of politicians, business representatives and civil activists to creating closer ties between this region and Western World. It is presented in 6 categories: Economic Westernization, Political Westernization, Legal Westernization, Westernization of Lifestyle, Language and Cultural Westernization, and Lifetime achievement.
2018 Westernization Award Nominees are:
- Economic Westernization – Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan.
- Political Westernization – Ambassador Wolfgang Ishinger, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference.
- Legal Westernization – Viktor Prokopenya, technology entrepreneur and venture investor
- Westernization of Lifestyle – Michael O’Leary, Ryanair CEO.
- Language and Cultural Westernization – Erden Kazhybek, Director of Akhmet Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics, one of the main developers of the new Kazakh alphabet.
- Lifetime achievement – Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former President of Estonia.
