Moldova, Canada to cooperate for mutual protection of investments

Moldova and Canada will cooperate for the mutual protection of investments. The parliament today ratified an agreement to this effect, signed between the governments of the two states.

The agreement stipulates, in particular, the conditions for the mutual promotion and protection of investments and the ways of disputes’ settlement.

The document’s goal is to strengthen the mutually advantageous economic and investment relations, create conditions for the carrying out investment activities by economic agents from the two countries and for the regulation of the commercial and economic ties.

The agreement will enter into force following the reception of the notifications by both sides on the fulfillment of the domestic procedures necessary to this end. The accord will remain in force during 15 years.

So far, no treaties in the economic sector or similar treaties have been signed with the Canadian side.

The agreement between the governments of Moldova and Canada on the mutual promotion and protection of investments was signed in Ottawa on 12 June 2018.
