Lawrence Meredith, Director for Neighbourhood East & Institution Building at the European Commission has been awarded a Legal Westernization Award for supporting the creation of a common legislative framework for ICT innovations within the EU4Digital project in the Eastern Partnership countries.
The award handover ceremony was held online on April 30.
At the ceremony, Mr. Lawrence listed five priorities of the EU in the Eastern Partnership countries: investments in economy and connectivity, green transition, digital transformation, supporting the rule of law, credible justice reforms and efficient public administration, diverse and inclusive societies.
Answering the question by Anatoly Motkin, StrategEast president about the role of digitalization in the economic recovery of Eastern Partnership countries amid the pandemic, Mr. Lawrence admitted its increasing importance.
“Digital transformation is key. From the side of the EU, we are strongly committed to supporting this transformation. Here are four areas where we could make a real contribution: developing infrastructure, e-governance, innovation, and cyber resilience.”
StrategEast Westernization Award was established in 2018 and is awarded to emphasize the significant contributions of politicians, business representatives, and civil activists in creating closer ties between this region and the Western World. It is presented in 6 categories: Economic Westernization, Political Westernization, Legal Westernization, Westernization of Lifestyle, Language and Culture Westernization, and Lifetime Achievement.
