Italian energy company Eni, through its local subsidiary ArmWind LLP, a joint venture between Eni and General Electric, has been awarded a 48 MW wind power project as a result of the online reverse auction for Wind Power Plants in the Kazakhstan Northern Zone, the company said. This was the third auction held in the country, after the two previous sessions held in 2018. The project, located in the proximity of Badamsha village, in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region, represents the extension of the Badamsha 1 48 MW wind farm currently under construction, which marked the first Eni large scale investment in wind technology.
This newly awarded wind project represents another important milestone in Eni’s overall strategy for decarbonisation and it is part of the transformation path towards green energy and circular economy that Eni has initiated since 2014. The company aims to improve energy access in the countries where it operates and is committed to ensuring maximum effort to reduce CO2 emissions.
Eni has been present in Kazakhstan since 1992. Eni is joint operator of the Karachaganak field and is an equity partner in various projects in the Northern Caspian Sea, including the giant Kashagan field. Eni is, in partnership with Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company Kazmunaygaz (KMG), the joint subsoil user and joint operator of the offshore exploration blocks Isatay and Abay in the Caspian Sea.
