IMF praises recovery of Georgian economy

“Georgian economy is showing strong signs of recovery, supported by prudent macroeconomic policies,” Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde stated following a meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze in Washington D.C yesterday.

“Prime Minister Bakhtadze and I discussed the solid progress under Georgia’s economic reform programme supported by the IMF’s $285 million Extended Fund Facility. We also discussed the importance of advancing Georgia’s ambitious reform agenda to support investment, education, and competitiveness, with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable and inclusive growth, which will benefit all Georgians”, Lagarde said, adding that she has reiterated the IMF’s commitment to support Georgia and its people.

The IMF revised the 2018 growth projection for the Georgian economy upward to 5.5 per cent on August 28 as a result of stronger than expected economic performance.

PM Bakhtadze and Christine Lagarde have expressed readiness to continue fruitful cooperation in the future as well.
