Germany to provide €40.1 million to Kyrgyzstan for technical and financial cooperation

Germany will allocate 40 million euros to Kyrgyzstan in the framework of bilateral technical and financial cooperation, the press service of the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

As reported, a meeting was held on Thursday between Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic Oleg Pankratov and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kyrgyz Republic Monika Iversen, during which agreements were signed between the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and Germany on financial and technical cooperation for 2017-2018.

Under these agreements, the German side will provide a grant of 40.1 million euros to Kyrgyzstan for technical and financial cooperation. Of this amount, 21.1 million euros is provided for technical cooperation projects.

The meeting was also attended by Head of GIZ in Kyrgyzstan Thomas Laban and Director of KfW Office in Kyrgyzstan Ylva Renner-Häberle.

Pankratov thanked the German partners for effective cooperation and support of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the implementation of projects and reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of the population of the republic.

The Minister noted that the Government of Germany is one of the main partners of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, along with various countries and international donor organizations, with whom development cooperation is carried out.

“If we are to get a look at the figures, it is necessary to emphasize that the amount of grant funds allocated through bilateral financial and technical cooperation following the last 2017 intergovernmental talks in Berlin amounts to 40.1 million euros. In addition, the total amount of provided aid since the beginning of the cooperation is 340 million euros,” Pankratov said.

In turn, the Ambassador of Germany to Kyrgyzstan stressed that the signing of the agreements on financial and technical cooperation for 2017-2018. is another step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two states.

“Our cooperation has continued for many years. The main areas which we are trying to provide more aid in are health care and sustainable economic development,” Iversen said.
