Germany assists Moldova in improving water supply services

The Government of Germany will offer the Republic of Moldova €2 million within a technical cooperation project that is designed to improve the local water supply and sewerage services in communities situated in the central basin of the Nistru River. In this regard, the Bureau for Reintegration Policies of the State Chancellery, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and the German Agency for International Cooperation signed an agreement to implement the project in Chisinau on February 21.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, the objective is to improve the institutional framework for the inter-communal management of water resources in 24 settlements located on both sides of the Nistru. “By strengthening the capacity of water supply and sewerage operators and by taking cooperation measures in the area, the public authorities will manage to develop investment projects and to improve local services. The expertise and modern equipment will add value to the efforts made by the local public authorities,” stated Minister Liviu Volconovici.

The money will be offered for covering operational and administrative costs, for supplying equipment and materials, for basic and continuous training, etc. The German Agency for International Cooperation will make an additional financial contribution of up to €550,000 for different investment measures or purchases that are to be identified in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.
