German Agency for International Cooperation backs water supply project in Moldova

More villages from the eastern Dubasari district, as well as of the Transnistrian region have recently signed a memorandum on the implementation of investment measures in the water supply sector. The settlements were selected within a project of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The document provides for buying eight tower-type water reservoirs, automation systems and related equipment in the selected settlements: Cocieri, Cosnita, Parata, Dorotcaia and Oxentea from the Dubasari district, as well as Doibani 1 and the Dubasari town from the Transnistrian region. The memorandum shows the role and responsibilities taken by the sides, the way they are carried out during the project’s implementation. The body in charge of implementing the measures is the project’s coordination board, which includes representatives from both banks of Dniester.

„I am sure that we will have a fruitful cooperation and the improvements in the water supply sector, achieved as a result of the implementation of these measures, will lead to the improvement of the living standards in the project’s intervention area, as well as to the strengthening of confidence building measures between both  banks of Dniester,” the GIZ project manager, Hanns-Bernd Kuchta, has said.

For his part, the head of the Dubasari district council, Grigore Policinschi, thanked the government of Germany for the implementation of the concerned measures in the water supply sector. He appreciated a lot the involvement and active participation of local authorities’ representatives.

The activities planned will be carried out within the project, Inter-village management of water resources on Dniester, implemented by GIZ. Earlier, decision-makers have finished the tender procedure for the purchasing  and setting of ten submersible pumps and two pumping groups, along with the related equipment in the settlements Holercani, Marcauti, Molovata, Molovata Noua from the Dubasari district and the Criuleni town, with financing from the same project’s sources.
