Thanks to the EU’s Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and support from the EU4Business–EBRD Credit Line, a company from Tskaltubo region has become the first producer in Georgia to export Georgian herbs to the EU market.
Herbia Ltd expanded its greenhouse farming and renewed its packaging equipment after it benefited from the credit line of the EU and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
It specialises in growing dill, parsley, coriander, celery, various types of lettuce, green onions, basil, mint and oregano. The founder, Zurab Janelidze, says the money the company received helped increase its production volume and find its own niche in the local market.
“In 2017, production doubled”, says Zurab. “Sales grew to both local and foreign markets. In Europe, we have a lot of demand for greens. We will use this credit to increase the volume.”
The EU4Business-EBRD Credit Line project helps small and medium-sized enterprises to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the DCFTA between Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the EU.
