GE Renewable Energy will supply 26 turbines for the first phase of a 200MW wind farm, which could be the joint-largest in the country when built.
Developer DTEK ordered the machines from GE’s 3MW platform, for its Primorskaya project in southerly Zaporizhia region.
GE will deliver and install the 26 turbines for Primorskaya’s first phase “after the completion of all financial and legal aspects of the transaction”, DTEK stated.
It expects the two stages of the 200MW project to be commissioned before 2020, the developer added.
The capacity of Primorskaya’s first phase and the model from GE’s 3MW platform to be used there has not specified.
DTEK is aiming to build 1GW of renewable projects, CEO Maksym Timchenko said, and it aims to “engage foreign investors and equipment manufacturers” in implementing this portfolio.
The developer, a subsidiary of the System Capital Management group, which counts reigning Ukrainian football champions Shakhtar Donetsk among its assets, owns the 200MW two-phase Botievo wind farm, currently the country’s largest project.
Timchenko added: “The new wind park will strengthen Ukraine’s position on its way towards modernisation of its energy sector, energy independence, and diversification of energy sources.”
GE will manufacture the turbines in Europe, install them at Primorskaya, and also handle their maintenance, under the terms of the contract.
