The possibilities for intensifying the Moldovan – French relations at political and economic levels were discussed February, 9 at the meeting of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, and Ambassador of France in Chisinau, Pascal Le Deunff, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
On this occasion, Premier expressed his gratitude for political support given by France in promoting European reform agenda of Moldova, as a coinitiator of European Action Group of Moldova. In this context, Pavel Filip mentioned that he counted on smooth running of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on 26 February.
Similarly, PM referred to recent developments in implementation of reforms, noting that ambitious goal of Executive is to put an end to oscillations between east and west, so that European path of Moldova becomes irreversible. “The EU’s popularity is rising. We need support messages from EU and we, here in Chisinau, through reforms we are going to implement this year, even if it is an electoral year, we will strengthen this vision,” said Pavel Filip.
At his turn, Pascal Le Deunff reiterated support of France for the European path of Moldova. “The reform programme provided by Association Agreement will foster economic and social development for all citizens’ benefit,” said the French diplomat. In particular, Ambassador referred upon importance of ensuring independence of judiciary and media.
The officials also referred to possibilities of increasing volume of trade in agriculture and agri – food, as well as French investments in Moldova. In this respect, Ambassador is open to promote investment opportunities in Moldova.
At present, 225 businesses with French capital with a share capital of MDL 137 million are operating in Moldova. The volume of bilateral trade exceeded $145 million in January – November 2017.
