Foreign investors since early 2017 have shown an active interest in Ukrainian assets, partner of Deloitte company in Ukraine Dmytro Anufriyev has said. “We see a significant interest of foreign investors in private transactions. We have been communicating with them very often in the last 11 months. Before that there has been almost no interest in Ukrainian companies among foreign investors for almost three years,” he said at the Ukrainian Investment Forum organized by the CFA Society Ukraine association of investment professionals in Kiev.
According to the expert, currently investors focus more on IT assets, energy, infrastructure facilities. In addition, there is still a high interest in the agricultural sector, some interest in real estate and the banking sector. Among those interested are mainly European strategic investors and direct investment funds. At the same time there are Chinese and American investors.
The Deloitte partner noted in absolute terms this interest is still limited compared to several years earlier. At the same time, investors behave more cautiously. “This is due to a number of reasons. Dragon Capital investment company has recently published a study, in which all of them [the reasons] were named, including the main ones: high corruption and an inefficient judicial system in the country,” Anufriyev said. Speaking about domestic investments, the expert noted Ukrainian companies and enterprises, first of all, need to restructure their debts.
