Henrik Hololei, Director-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission says that Georgia is the leading aviation country among the Eastern Partnership countries.
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are part of the Eastern Partnership.
“Georgia is truly the leading aviation country among the countries of the Eastern Partnership and this is proved by the number of passengers (400,000 passengers) who took flights between Georgia and the European Union annually since 2010. This [has amounted to] 9.3% growth annually”, said Hololei in his opening speech at the economic conference ‘Georgia and the World in 2019’.
Hololei said that from the economic point of view, Georgia’s aviation sector is now making clear progress.
“I was glad to see last year’s statistics which showed the number of passengers at Georgian airports. Georgian airports served over 5 million passengers last year and this number increased by 23% [compared to 2017]. This is truly impressive”, said Hololei.
Later Hololei also participated at the EU-Georgia meeting on transport issues.
