EU to support public lighting network modernization in city of central Moldova

For the first time, more areas of Calarasi city are the subject of an energy audit. These are the sectors where there will be installed public lighting networks in a project funded by EU.

The first energy audit actions were recently examined at the Calarasi city hall. The meeting discussed the current state of the public lighting system over 48 km, the streets to be connected and the technical requirements imposed on the lighting fixtures.

According to Calarasi city hall’s information and media communication service, there participated two companies in tender for energy audit, the first being a company created in 2011 and the second – one of the first companies to bring LED technology to European standards in Moldova.

“We decided to carry out this energy audit in order to know precisely existing situation of public lighting system and understand how to implement the project successfully,” said Mayor of Calarasi, Nicolae Melnic.

The final energy audit report and project of technical implementation for modernisation and energy efficiency measures of public lighting system in Calarasi city will be ready in September of 2018.

Project: Improving Public Lighting in Calarasi – Firefly in the middle of Codru, realised by the Calarasi City Hall in partnership with IDIS Viitorul, was launched this winter and has an implementation period of 30 months. The project is financed by EU through the EU programme: Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects. According to IDIS Viitorul energy expert, Ion Muntean, there will be replaced 500 luminaires in Calarasi and the energy efficiency project will provide a real saving of €6,500 per year and enable reduction of CO2 emissions, maintenance and operating costs.
