EU provides Moldova with €5 million for regional development, empowering civil society

Those four development regions of Moldova (South, Centre, North and Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri) will be got involved in a project on empowering Moldova’s citizens, financed by the European Union and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The programme was launched this week and is to be carried out till late 2021.

The main goal of the project is to enhance the active and constructive participation of citizens in local, regional and national decision-taking processes in the public services sector.

Citizens’ participation and involvement in the process of planning and supply of public services will allow them monitoring the work of the public authorities, actively get involved in the local decision-making process.

Through this project, citizens will be empowered to tackle problems on environment, health and agree on the needed solutions and priorities along with the local authorities. The project will also contribute to the edification of the capacities of public institutions to use participatory and inclusive ways in the processes of taking decisions and working out policies.

The project, Empowering Citizens of Moldova, has an overall budget of about five million euros, provided by EU, of which 3.75 million euros will be earmarked as grants for civil society’s organizations.
