The Delegation of the European Union to Georgia has launched eight projects to support civil society and protect human rights in the country. The projects will be funded through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights) as well as the EU’s Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities Instrument.
Speaking at the event, Janos Herman, Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Georgia, underlined the importance of civil society: “Support to civil society remains one of the priorities of the European Union, globally as well as here in Georgia. These eight projects will support active civic participation and uphold human rights.”
Representatives of the eight selected projects had the opportunity to discuss the challenges they identified in society and their approaches on how to improve the lives of Georgian citizens and enable them to participate more actively in society. Focus areas of the selected projects include support to vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities or mental disorders, children and economically challenged people, as well as support to active civic participation in general.
