The government of Armenia will spend 10 million euros, provided by the French Development Agency and the European Union on the development of irrigation systems for gardens, Gegham Gevorgyan, the executive director of the Agricultural Development Fund, told journalists on Wednesday.
He said the program is designed for four years and is aimed at improving the irrigation systems in the Armavir and Ararat regions of the country.
“The financing will be channeled into to the introduction of drip irrigation systems, the laying of secondary irrigation canals and the consolidation of land, which are important in terms of creating agricultural cooperatives,” Gevorgyan said. According to him, the program calls for establishing agricultural gardens with an area of at least 2 thousand hectares with a modern irrigation systems, as well as for providing technical and financial assistance in the formation of cooperatives.
