EU considers increasing assistance to Armenia

The European Union is considering the possibility of increasing assistance to Armenia, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Victorin told reporters on Friday.

She said that discussions on a new assistance package have started with the Armenian government to specify the areas that will get the assistance. She said the amount of assistance will be expanded, and the funding will be directed to various areas, including the SMEs.

‘In cooperation with the government, we are discussing issues of improving mutual dialogue,” said Victorin.

She said a large program is planned for the early October as part the Eastern Partnership Program, which will be held at the initiative of the government.

The European Union is the largest donor of financial assistance to Armenia and is its main partner in the implementation of the reform, allocating an average of 1 million euros per week to finance improved governance, strengthened  economy, deepened ties and human contacts.

Since 2014, through loans and grants, the EU has invested more than 1 billion euros in Armenia’s  energy, agriculture and transport infrastructures.
