On 24 January, the Armenian capital Yerevan hosted a kick-off meeting for the Horizon 2020 ‘COBRAIN’ project. The project aims to facilitate cooperation between Armenia, Germany and Sweden in establishing a brain research excellence centre in Yerevan.
This cooperation will be implemented within the ‘COBRAIN: Armenia Centre for Translational Research on Chronic Neurodegenerative Disorders: A Neuroscience Initiative on Maintaining Healthy Brain Ageing’ project.
According to the EU, for the first time Armenia, represented by Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi, was recognised as the winner of the Horizon 2020 Twinning programme.
“The European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme presents opportunities for fostering continuous cooperation between research institutions in Armenia and Europe,” said Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
“The COBRAIN initiative which we inaugurate today is a fine example of a collaboration project on brain research between Yerevan State Medical University, Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen and Lund University.”
Armenia’s high officials were present at the project launch in Yerevan.
