Canadian SkyPower company to invest $1.3 billion for solar energy facilities in Uzbekistan

SkyPower Global will invest US$1.3 billion for solar energy projects in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the additional Measures to Implement Solar Energy Projects Decree Saturday.

The document said that Uzbekenergo and SkyPower Global signed a Power Purchase Agreements on 19 April according to which, SkyPower Global will build 1000 MW of utility-scale solar energy facilities worth of $1.3 billion in Uzbekistan

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the governors to provide land for the projects in Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya provinces.

SkyPower Global will carry out the design, financing and construction of facilities. The company will own and operate the facilities in future.

The President Mirziyoyev granted tax and customs benefits to the company and its future subsidiaries in the provinces.

Should Uzbekenergo fail to pay for the supplied energy, the due amounts shall be levied from the Uzbekistan’s state budget, the decree noted.
