Belarus to apply to U.S. Department of Commerce for market economy status

Belarus will apply to the U.S. Department of Commerce for the market economy status. The decision has been formalized in the Belarusian Council of Ministers’ Resolution No.690 of 9 October 2019 that was posted on the Belarus’ National Legal Internet Portal on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian Economy Ministry shall use the single-source procurement procedure and purchase legal services from Crowell & Moring law firm that will help with the transition process of Belarus from the status of non-market economy to the market economy status.

The market economy status enables exporting enterprises to compete for markets on an equal footing.

Resolution No.690 came into effect on 9 October 2019 and shall be valid for two years.
