Swiss Syngenta company ready to help Ukraine reform agricultural sector

Head of Ukraine’s State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Volodymyr Lapa and the leadership of Syngenta, a global agribusiness company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, have discussed the process of bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with EU standards in seed production and plant protection, the service’s press office has reported.

The participants in the meeting discussed the approximation of Ukrainian legislation to the EU standards in the areas of seed production, plant protection, biotechnologies, etc., as well as practical aspects of implementation and challenges to agriculture in the European Union in connection with the adoption of certain sections of the EU legislation in the agricultural sector.

The parties said that taking into account the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of agriculture, as well as challenges faced by Ukrainian producers in today’s conditions, there is a need for constant dialogue between representatives of the authorities and the business community.

The meeting was initiated by Syngenta representatives to discuss the prospects of the Ukrainian agricultural sector in modern conditions.
