The implementation of the Council of Europe’s Confidence-Building Measures programme (CBMs), included in the CoE action plan for Moldova for 2017-2020 was discussed at a meeting between Secretary of State Tatiana Molcean and Head of Division for Confidence Building Measures, Directorate of Political Advice of the Council of Europe Ana Capello-Brillat.
According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media relations service, the officials exchanged views on the actions of the Chisinau authorities in the context of achieving the goals, and voiced confidence that the programme will give long-term results, including the implementation of joint projects and partnerships, especially for beneficiaries in the Transnistrian region.
In Molcean’s opinion, a good example of this cooperation in this format is also CoE’s initiative to organize in June 2018 a peace camp called – Youth peace camp- with the participation of pupils and young people from both banks of the Dniestre. At the same time, the official welcomed the CoE’s decision to continue the training course at the European Centre for Modern Languages in Graz (Austria) for English language teachers in Moldova, including teachers from schools located in the eastern districts of the country.
For her part, Ana Capello-Brillat said she would consider the Moldovan side’s requests to include other additional interaction activities in the programme with the priorities set out in the plan (media, prisons, education, social rights, civil society), including related to human rights on the Internet, Holocaust commemoration, teacher training etc.
