A company from the UK, Aggreko, has been implementing a pilot project to create an efficient heat and power supply system in Tashkent region’s Yangiyul city.
The work will be carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Housing and Utility Services of Uzbekistan.
This is the first step in cooperation between the leading British company specializing in providing distribution mobile power, heating and cooling systems and Uzbekistan. Its goal is to find a way to increase the productivity of heat and power generation and to offer a solution for a pilot project in Yangiyul with a population of 80,000, located 30 km from Tashkent.
“The pilot project in Yangiyul will be the first stage of our interaction. The goal is to create a joint working group for technical audit of the existing heat and power generation infrastructure, and to develop and implement a suitable upgrade solution by attracting direct investments from Aggreko,” Deputy Minister of Housing and Utility Services Gofir Jamalov said.
According to him, if successful, it is planned that similar projects will also be implemented in other regions of the country, in particular, in such a large city as Jizzakh.
“Heat and electricity are basic needs without which development of companies and communities is impossible. We are very pleased to use our experience and leading technologies to help the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services in upgrading the infrastructure for the generation of heat and electricity, energy in Yangiyul,” said Alex de Valuhoff, CEO of Aggreko Eurasia LLC.
Today, the sphere of housing and utility services of Uzbekistan consumes about 60% of the country’s total energy. Therefore, one of the key goals of the Ministry is to modernize the heat and power supply systems using modern cogeneration technologies. These tasks are set in the government’s infrastructure modernization program for 2018-2022.
