Moldova’s government backs introduction of the county’s European aspirations in Constitution

The cabinet of ministers of Moldova January, 31 endorsed a legislative initiative on the completion of the Constitution through the emphasizing of the country’s European integration aspirations and promotion of Moldova’s orientation towards the European space of democratic values, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Thus, the preamble and the Article 1 will be completed with provisions clearly establishing the European way of Moldova. Also, decision-makers propose Constitution’s completion with a new article, according to which the European integration represents the country’s strategic goal of development. The procedure of Moldova joining the constituent treaties of the European Union will be established by parliament through organic law.

The Constitutional Court’s Ruling No 24 from 9 October 2014 will represent basis for the working out and promotion of the draft law. According to the authors, when elaborating the document, decision-makers took into account the constitutional practice of the states which joined the European Union in the last decade, as well as of some states which firmly go the European integration way.
