German-based package delivery company to invest 5 million euros in the Baltic states

Package delivery services provider DPD is to invest nearly €5 million and install more than 250 new package terminals across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania over the next two years. The company is to install at least 120 new package terminals in 2018 already, including 50 in Estonia, 20 in Latvia and another 50 in Lithuania. The investment plan is to be concluded in 2019, DPD said.

“Data from our recent studies show that private persons clearly prefer package terminals over door-to-door courier service, and this trend is growing,” DPD Eesti CEO Rainer Rohtla said in a press release. “Therefore, we are planning large investments in developing the package terminal network.”

The large number of package terminals and people’s preference for them are particular to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, compared to other European countries, Rohtla noted, adding that Estonia in particular stood out in this regard.

DPD is the second-largest international package distribution service provider in Europe. The company has nearly 200 couriers, more than 180 vehicles and employs 127 people in Estonia. DPD currently has 127 parcel terminals in Estonia, 139 in Latvia and 91 in Lithuania.
