The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the attraction of a EUR 160 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the project to expand the Kharkiv subway. The government made the decision without discussion at a government meeting on Wednesday.
According to the document, the Finance Ministry of Ukraine is to sign an agreement with municipal enterprise Kharkiv Metropoliten and Kharkiv City Council on the transfer of the loan. The fee for the provision of the loan is 0.01% per annum for the taken down and unpaid sum of the loan.
The similar resolution was approved by the government for a EUR 160 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In addition, the government approved two more draft resolutions of the Ukrainian president that create delegations to participate in the negotiations on the above-mentioned loans.
The delegations include Deputy Finance Minister Yuriy Butsa, Director of the investment projects department of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry Oksana Hryshkevych, Head of the economic cooperation department of the Foreign Ministry Oleksandr Danyleiko, Deputy Head of the department of the Justice Ministry Olena Seliutina, Director General of Kharkiv Metropoliten Viacheslav Stamatin, First Deputy Kharkiv City Mayor Ihor Terekhov and Head of the department of the Infrastructure Ministry Iryna Terletska.
Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk is authorized to sign the agreements. The implementation of the project would allow launching two subway stations and the Oleksiyivske electric depot, bring the share of subway of total urban passenger traffic to 50% and improve its quality. The implementation of the project would boost the annual passenger flow in the subway by 25 million people.
