StrategEast President highlights unique position of Georgia as a digital bridge between Eurasia and the Gulf at IGF event in Riyadh

On December 18, Anatoly Motkin President of StrategEast spoke at IGF 2024 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the panel Empowering the Region Towards Sustainable Digital Growth. The side event had been organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Georgian Communications Commission.

During his address, Mr. Motkin highlighted StrategEast’s role in fostering digital transformation and innovation in Georgia. He emphasized the country’s strategic location, its expanding tech ecosystem, and its emerging talent pool as key factors driving its potential as a digital hub. He also outlined initiatives and partnerships aimed at strengthening Georgia’s digital economy and enhancing its competitiveness on both regional and global scales.

The event aimed to delve into the significance of connectivity corridors and technological hubs in driving digital transformation, empowering regional advancement, and promoting global competitiveness focusing on the case of Georgia. The key topics for discussion included the role of international internet connectivity as an enabler of global competitiveness in an increasingly digital global economy.

The event featured insights from Eka Kubusidze, Head of the Department of Communications, Information and Modern Technologies at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, who presented Georgia’s ambition to position itself as a digital hub and detailed the government’s ongoing efforts to achieve this goal. Representing the European Commission, Georgios Tselentis discussed how the EU is supporting Georgia and the broader Caucasus region in advancing digital transformation through targeted programs and initiatives that leverage Georgia’s strategic advantages to enhance regional and European digital connectivity.

Speakers also included Olga Skorokhodova from Google, who outlined the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable digital growth in the Caucasus region, and Stephen Nelson from Starlink, who highlighted Georgia’s pivotal role in Starlink’s strategy to expand digital connectivity in emerging markets. Nelson shared plans to strengthen internet infrastructure in Georgia, enhancing its regional connectivity and supporting the country’s ambition to become a digital hub.

The session began with an introduction by Ekaterine Imedadze, Head of the Georgian Communications Commission who outlined the objectives of the discussion and introduced the speakers.
