On August 24, StrategEast and Google, supported by USAID’s FGI, kicked off the “Build with AI for Sustainable Development” hackathon series. This initiative aims to leverage Google AI, including Google Gemini, to tackle climate issues and promote sustainable development across Central Asia and the Caucasus. The first event drew over 120 startups, highlighting the region’s commitment to impactful AI solutions.
The hackathon featured three main tracks: developing AI solutions for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change, deploying Google Gemini for innovative solutions, and building successful startups with a focus on sustainable growth and AI strategies. Keynote speakers included Rhonda Shrader, Executive Director of NSF I-Corps Bay Area; Ainura Sagyn, a Kyrgyzstani social entrepreneur and co-founder of green tech startup TAZAR; and Askar Aituov, Google Developer Relations Coordinator.
The event was moderated by Natalia Petrova, CEO of StrategEast, and Aisuluu Kozhomkulova, Regional Director for Central Asia at StrategEast. It was a significant success, showcasing the creative potential of the participating startups. The series will continue with more events, culminating in a final presentation in Astana in early October, where top teams will compete for honors and investment opportunities.
