Energy efficiency is one of the main priorities on the agenda for EU-Ukrainian cooperation. The EU is supporting Ukraine in the implementation of energy sector reforms, as well as in promoting energy efficiency. For the past 6 months, the EU has supported an information campaign entitled “Energy for your home” in five Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia. The campaign aims at promoting energy efficiency and raising awareness among associations representing residents of blocks of flats.
According to estimations, almost half of the Ukrainian population live in tower blocks. “Between 70 and 90 per cent of blocks of flats are not energy efficient in Ukraine”, says Andriy Kyrchiv, representative of the “Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine” association. The expert says that all they need is complex thermal modernisation. The associations representing residents of tower blocks will have the opportunity to profit from financial assistance from the EU Energy Efficiency Fund for Ukraine. It is expected that the Fund will be launched in 2018, with a total budget of €100 million.
