IMF to support Moldova in process of implementing reforms

Prime Minister, Ion Chicu, has met with the head of the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Moldova, Ruben Atoyan, to set priorities for further cooperation.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, at the beginning of the meeting, the head of IMF mission has congratulated PM Ion Chicu on taking office. At his turn, PM has appreciated the importance of IMF support for Moldova and expressed openness to identify new ways to extend the cooperation between the Government of Moldova and IMF, throughout new programmes, actions, but also technical assistance projects.

The officials have exchanged constructive opinions regarding the state of the national economy at present, plans for attracting investments in Moldova, but also prospects for growth of GDP.

The head of the mission, Ruben Atoyan, has added that IMF is ready to continue supporting Moldova in the process of implementing reforms, once the Government assumes these commitments, stating that it would be beneficial the progress of Executive in implementing reforms in the financial and fiscal sector, but also in the investigation of bank fraud.

The parties also agreed on the necessary steps for the extension of the programme with IMF, which expires in March 2020. In this regard, a delegation of the International Monetary Fund will pay a visit to Moldova in January – February 2020.
