Uzbekistan and Italy to elaborate a roadmap on cooperation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on November 22 received an Italian delegation led by the Governor of the Lombardy region Attilio Fontana.

The parties discussed Uzbek-Italian relations, including enhancing the practical cooperation with Lombardy, one of the leading industrial, intellectual and cultural centers in Italy and the European Union.

The sides spoke about significance of establishing intensive business contacts and exchanges, and implementing joint programs and projects with Italian companies and organizations in the fields of trade, investment, industrial technology, agriculture, healthcare and tourism.

Particular attention was paid to interaction with renowned universities of Lombardy in training highly qualified specialists, primarily in engineering areas.

An agreement was reached on the adoption of a “roadmap” to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Italian region in preparation for high-level bilateral events.

A day earlier, on November 21, Tashkent hosted negotiations between business representatives of Uzbekistan and Italy, the Jahon information agency reported.

At the event, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, economic, investment, and transport sectors, as well as in the field of communications and information technologies.

There are about 30 companies with Italian capital in Uzbekistan.

At the event, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry A. Ikramov emphasized the need for expanding cooperation with Italy’s Lombardy region, which has a developed agricultural sector.

President of Italy–Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, Luigi Iperti, noted the growing interest of Italian business in investing in Uzbekistan.
