EU to provide Moldova with new budgetary assistance installment worth €25 million

The European Commission approved the providing of a new budgetary assistance installment worth 24.85 million euros to Moldova in Brussels on 30 October. The citizens will benefit from the improvement of police services, enhancement of economic opportunities in agriculture and rural development on the basis of this support on behalf of EU, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

As for the pressing ahead with the police reform, the money is earmarked to improve the conditions and quality of education in the training and excellence centres for policemen, implementation of a system of continuous professional training for them and for improving the conditions in the remand prisons.

The European Union resumed the providing of the budgetary and macro-financial assistance to Moldova in July 2019. Two years ago, the support was suspended because of the deterioration of the rule of law state in the country. The resumption of the assistance is meant to back the process of structural reforms, assumed by the Moldovan cabinet and is conditioned by the progress made in these reforms. Starting from last July till present, EU has provided Moldova with 73.54 million euros for the continuation and support of reforms, of which 53.74 million euros as budgetary assistance and 19.8 million euros as macro-financial assistance.

Till late 2019, another 40 million euros is scheduled to be disbursed as macro-financial assistance.
